Today, Monday, the Supreme Judicial Council issued a clarification regarding the punishment of insulting state institutions and employees.
The supervisor of the media center in the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Abdul Sattar Bayrakdar, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Article (226) of the Penal Code stipulates a prison sentence of no more than seven years against anyone who insults a state institution." .
He added that "Article (229) of the aforementioned law stipulates a prison sentence of no more than three years against anyone who insults a state employee and in any position or address, and these crimes are considered crimes of the public right."
