Minister of Transport Abdullah Laibi announced that he submitted an official request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to approach the concerned authorities to include the breakwater in the name of the Republic of Iraq - the Ministry of Transport, in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest breakwater in the world with a length of (15,306) km.
Laibi explained that to his vision, it could be classified as a rival symbol for the corresponding projects and “this step is considered a precedent in the history of Iraqi state institutions,”
"The most prominent projects that the Ministry of Transport in Basra; through the General Company for Iraqi Ports; is the breakout of the western waves which is one of the most important components in the Grand Fao port during the year 2019," said Laibi.
He added that al-Fao project a mega projects because of its location, distinguished by a geostrategic dimension at the local, regional and global levels, and it has economic and political dimensions for the country in general and Basra in particular.
