PDC: Activating the contract to purchase the S-300 contract

    The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed that Iraq has started activating the contract to purchase the Russian S-300 air defense missile system about three months ago.

    The head of the Parliamentary Defense CommitteeMohamed Reda, told the Iraqi News Agency: "The Iraqi army has air defenses with a maximum range of 20 km, and they are distributed among sovereign and important targets and forbidden areas in the country," noting that "about three months ago the contract was activated With Russia to arm frozen air defense, to provide Iraq with S-300 missiles with a range of 200 km, which is good for the geography of Iraq.

    In turn, the Ministry of Defense intends to purchase modern aircraft and tanks to enhance the military capabilities of the Iraqi army.

    The ministry's spokesman, Brigadier Yahya Rasool, told the Iraqi News Agency: The ministry has been developing the military system and that there is a contract to purchase F-16s from the United States, as well as importing Korean-made T-50s and Czech-made 159s, pointing out that "the Ministry of Defense possesses modern American Brahms, and T-90s are advanced Russian tanks."
