Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi received a phone call from the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday.
Both have discussed security developments, the current crisis and the implications for the security and stability of the region and the world.
The two discussed "the position of the Iraqi government and parliament regarding the withdrawal of foreign forces and the preservation of Iraqi sovereignty, in addition to the escalation taking place in light of the current crisis, the media office of the Prime Minister stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency INA.
The German chancellor stressed her support for Iraq’s security and stability, the importance of continued cooperation between Iraq and the European Union countries to counter terrorism, as well as stressing the need to seek avoiding war and its risks to global peace, security and work to reduce escalation.
