The Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadhil, announced today, Sunday, the intention to establish a new station in Baiji with a capacity of 2,100 megawatts, while indicating that 7 measures will be taken to secure the energy needs of citizens.
The Ministry of Electricity said, “Minister Ziad Ali Fadhil held a meeting with officials of the Qatari company, Urbacan, to discuss the final details of concluding a contract to establish a new steam station in Baiji with a capacity of 2,100 megawatts, in the presence of the Undersecretary for Production Affairs, the Director General of Northern Production, and the Director of the Technical Department in the Ministry.
The details of the project to establish the steam station, which consists of 6 production units, with a capacity of about 350 megawatts, were discussed. The minister instructed “the concerned committees to quickly complete the technical details related to the project,” pointing out that “the ministry decided to build the new station in the same location as the previous station, which was completely destroyed during the war on ISIS, as the site is characterized by its proximity to the oil refinery, which “It is easy to supply the station with the fuel that operates it.”
