Iraq intends to enlist Iraqi Maqam and Khidher al-Yas in ISESCO list

    Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities announced that it intends to include the Iraqi Maqam and Khidher al-Yas in ISESCO's list.

    "Iraq is a founding member within the international and regional organizations, and ISESCO is considered an international Islamic organization, with nearly 54 member-countries," Falah Hassan Shaker, Director General of Cultural Relations at the Ministry, told Iraqi News Agency – INA.

    Shaker added that the ministry is focusing the current efforts in cooperation with international organizations in order to include several sites within the list of Islamic heritage, “including the hospitality and the service that Iraqi people provide to the visitors of Imam Hussein (PBUH).

    He stressed that "there are serious efforts to include the Iraqi Maqam and the visit the shrine of Khadr al-Yas (PBUH) on ISESCO's list as well"

    During the extraordinary meeting of the Heritage Committee in the Islamic World, which was established in Morocco, ISESCO included five Iraqi heritage sites on its list, namely: Qishla of Baghdad, the Central Door, Dome of the Serail, Dar al-Wali, and the house of Khalil Pasha in addition to the Museum of the Leader Abdul Karim Qasim.

    Iraq participated in this meeting, which resulted in the most prominent inclusion of more than 120 sites are on the list of ISESCO's Islamic heritage, in addition to adopting the ISESCO electronic portal for historical monuments and archaeological sites in the Islamic world, and studying the subject of registering industrial heritage sites in member states on the heritage list in the Islamic world.

    The meeting also relied on registering Kaaba, Great Mosque of Mecca, Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, and Al-Aqsa Mosque, in the list of ISESCO.
