The coffin of Tutankhamun to an important step after 97 years

Egyptian archaeologist Khaled Anani announced on Sunday the sterilization of the golden coffin of King Tut Ankh Aamun, one of the most famous kings of the ancient Egyptian state, in preparation for its restoration.

Anani said that the coffin of Tut Ankh Aamun is a unique artifact and is due to be exhibited at the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is due to open in the last quarter of 2020.The minister pointed out that the golden coffin was in poor condition as a result of leaving him in the King's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor for 97 years without restoration.Al-Anani expected that the restoration will take at least eight months. The coffin will then be exhibited in the Grand Egyptian Museum, among 5,000 artifacts of the young king's possessions.

In mid-July, the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities began to renovate the wooden ark of King Tut Ankh Aamun, which was transferred from the king's tomb to the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The Secretary-General of the Council of Antiquities, Mustafa Vaziri, confirmed that the transfer of the coffin was carried out after the approval of the Standing Committee of Antiquities of Egypt on the transfer, to carry out the first restoration since the discovery of the cemetery in 1922.
