Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadhil, discussed on Wednesday with the UAE Ambassador to Baghdad, Abdullah Matar Al Mazrouei, prospects for joint cooperation between Iraq and the UAE in the energy sector. Al Mazrouei confirmed that a contract will be signed with the Emirati company Masdar to build a 1,000-megawatt solar power plant.
The Ministry of Electricity stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the meeting reviewed available investment opportunities in the electricity and renewable energy sectors, and ways to benefit from Emirati expertise in this field."
The statement added that "the Minister of Electricity affirmed Iraq's keenness to strengthen partnerships with Emirati companies," noting that "a contract with the Emirati company Masdar to build a 1,000-megawatt solar power plant in Iraq is imminent."
For his part, the UAE Ambassador expressed his country's "aspiration to expand cooperation with Iraq in the renewable energy sector," stressing "the readiness of Emirati companies to contribute to the development of Iraq's energy infrastructure."
