Al-Hadba Minaret and the Great Mosque of Al-Nuri in Mosul are currently undergoing advanced construction after being targeted by Daesh terrorist gangs during the events of 2014.

Daesh bombed the minaret and mosque, attempting to obliterate their identity.

The completion rate has reached more than 85%, following years of tireless work, in the implementation of the government program launched by PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani.

The last brick was laid on Al-Hadba Minaret of the Great Mosque of Al-Nuri, which was built by Nur Al-Din Zengi in 1172 AD, completing the construction of the minaret with its original bricks.

The minaret is 45 meters high and 160 centimeters inclined, using the same inscriptions and decorations. Al-Hadba Minaret is one of the most prominent historical monuments in the city of Mosul.

Leading the updates on the latest developments in the reconstruction process of Al-Hadba Minaret and Al-Nuri Mosque, Abdullah Mahmoud, archaeologist and head of the archaeological committee supervising the reconstruction of the Al-Nuri Mosque, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency - INA: “Construction work on the minaret of Al-Nuri Mosque has been fully completed. All that remains is the interior tiles, and the completion of electrical work, windows, and doors.

He added, "We have preserved its antiquity and heritage by using the original pieces of original brick, and the same mortar materials used previously.”

"Its inclination and fine details, such as the geometric decorations implemented on the body of the minaret, have been preserved," he included.

Mahmoud noted that "its return means the return of the spirit to Mosul because it is considered the identity of the city."

In turn, UNESCO site engineer Mustafa Khalid Al-Diwani said in a statement to INA: "The reconstruction of the Al-Nuri Mosque by UNESCO, in cooperation with the Inspectorate of Heritage and Antiquities and the Sunni Endowment in Nineveh, has fully completed the construction work inside the minaret.

"The work documented artifacts obtained from within the site, amounting to approximately 25,000 artifacts from the body of the minaret, have been included."

Al-Diwani indicated that "a combination of ancient and modern methods was used in the reconstruction of the minaret. A new foundation was constructed that preserves the architectural heritage identity of the minaret."

"The current phase is the completion of the mosque after the minaret has been completed," he added.
