The Executive Director of the Iraq Development Fund, Mohammed Al-Najjar, confirmed today, Thursday, that the private sector will undertake the implementation of the "Eduba" project for schools, which has started its implementation in 5 governorates. While he indicated that some investors promised to deliver their projects within 6 months, he pointed out that "Eduba" will provide about 50,000 job opportunities, in addition to its contribution to reducing the financial burdens on the government.

Al-Najjar said in his statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The beneficiary, which is the government, will rent schools from the private sector implementing the "Eduba" project after completing their construction, which reduces the financial costs borne by the government in building these schools," explaining that "the government will pay one dinar for every 10 dinars invested by the private sector in the project."

He added that "the designs of the schools were prepared by the investors through specialized consultants from the private sector, while the government appointed a global consultant to ensure that the designs match the actual needs of the schools."

Al-Najjar continued, "The first phase of the project was launched two months ago by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, while the executive work was recently launched and the foundation stone was laid for the first group of schools, which are scheduled to be completed within one year," noting that "some investors have pledged to deliver the school buildings within only six months."

He explained that "the number of schools currently required in Iraq is 10,000 schools, but the need is increasing annually, which requires the implementation of similar projects over a period of 10 to 15 years to bridge the educational gap in the country."

He pointed out that "the project will provide between 30 and 50 thousand job opportunities, and will also contribute to stimulating the industrial sector by producing construction supplies within Iraq."
