Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency INA that Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today with nine-year-old Abdulsalam, an orphaned child who sustained severe injuries as a victim of terrorism. Abdulsalam was accompanied by Mr. Manhil Ahmed Akla, an Iraqi Army soldier who courageously rescued him during the battles to liberate Mosul and has since assumed responsibility for his care. Mr. Akla is also recognized for saving the lives of several other children during the conflict.
The statement read that “Prime Minister Al-Sudani reviewed Abdulsalam’s medical condition, acknowledging that the child endured two critical injuries during the battles and lost both his parents. Under the auspices of the Prime Minister and with support from international humanitarian organizations, Abdulsalam has already undergone several surgical procedures. The Prime Minister directed the relevant authorities to facilitate his continued treatment abroad and finalize travel arrangements to Spain for further medical procedures.”
It further said “Additionally, the Prime Minister instructed the Iraqi Embassy in Madrid to provide all necessary assistance and allocated financial support to cover travel and accommodation expenses during Abulsalam’s treatment.”
