MOE: Mine's victims assistance is one of the government's priorities

    The Ministry of Environment confirmed, today, Thursday, that the issue of helping mine victims is one of the government's priorities, while noting that it is the best among the national programs in the world.

    The Ministry's Department of Mine Affairs said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Department of Mine Affairs, in cooperation with Handicap International HI, carried out, for the period from 5-6 of this July, a joint workshop under the title (lessons learned from the Victims Support Project and the development of a plan Procedural, to implement the axes of the Mine Victim Assistance Standard (10-13), which was launched recently, with direct technical support from Handicap International and other partners.
     
    The Director General of the Department, Sabah Hassan Al-Husseini, emphasized during the workshop the "importance of the mine victim assistance file by the Iraqi government with all its concerned institutions," noting that "the governmental mine victim assistance program is the best among the national programs in the world.".

    He added, "The victims are now enjoying great medical, economic, social and rehabilitative services that would ensure their reintegration into society again.".

    While the Director of Programs at Handicap International, Daniela Maria Busta, said during the symposium, "Iraq is the first country in the world that now has a national standard compatible with international standards specialized in the field of mine victim assistance," noting that it is "a great achievement that should be fully invested." .

    The Director of the Victim Assistance Department at the Department of Mine Affairs, Alaa Fadel, stated that "this workshop is for the purpose of benefiting from previous lessons in cooperation with Handicap International, which culminated in the launch of the National Standard for Victim Assistance, as well as the development of procedural plans to implement this standard and in accordance with the terms of the recently approved strategy." .
