Iraq submits a statement on the file of mine victims assistance

    A delegation from The Directorate for Mine Action submitted on Tuesday, a statement on the file of mine victims’ assistance needs in Iraq during a meeting in Switzerland.
     
    "An official delegation headed by the Director General of the Department, Dhafer Mahmoud Khalaf, and the membership of a number of the cadres of The Directorate, as well as of Iraq's permanent representatives to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Sabah Jassem and Mohammad Rida Al-Haidari, participated in the inaugural session of Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in Ottawa, held in Switzerland,” said  The official spokesman for The Directorate for Mine Affairs in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
     
    He added that "At the outset of the session, the agenda of the meeting was reviewed, in addition to reviewing the observations of the coordination committees concerned with survey, removal and awareness, the International Cooperation and Assistance Committee, the Victim Assistance Committee and the Cooperative Compliance Committee," noting that " the Head of Delegation has submitted Iraq's official statement on the victim assistance file, as he will present his technical data on other mine affairs files at the forthcoming meetings. "
     
    And he added, "Iraq is a member of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in Ottawa, and it is obliged to submit its periodic reports to the convention secretariat, in which it reflects the progress made in mine action related to this agreement and other agreements to which Iraq was affiliated at an earlier time."
