Hussein: The Syrian situation will be discussed at crucial meetings in Baghdad

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, announced on Thursday the holding of important meetings in the capital Baghdad on the situation in Syria, noting that the Iraqi government has taken several diplomatic initiatives to manage crises and achieve stability in the region.  

    The Foreign Minister said, during a press conference in Basra, attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The situation in the region, especially in Syria, is very complicated, so the Iraqi government has taken several initiatives and Iraq was a center for diplomatic events, where new ideas were put forward in order to achieve security, stability and crisis management."  

    He pointed out that "there are meetings to be held in Baghdad or in other areas on the Syrian situation, and will include a comprehensive plan to discuss this issue."

    "It is Iraq's duty to raise some issues related to the Syrian crisis and the Syrian people, with the aim of achieving political stability that includes all components of the Syrian people," he said. 

     In a separate context, he pointed out that "Iraq celebrates the anniversary of the victory over ISIS gangs," extending his thanks to "the Iraqi armed forces in all its branches, including the Popular Mobilization Forces, Peshmerga, police and army, as well as the countries that helped support the Iraqi security forces, whether neighboring countries or the international coalition." 

     He pointed out that "Iraq is part of the international coalition, and that it continues to fight terrorism wherever it is found."
