The Central Investigation Court of the Presidency of the Baghdad Rusafa Court of Appeal announced today, Thursday, the seizure of more than a ton of narcotic substances during operations carried out in cooperation with the competent authorities in the Ministry of Interior since the beginning of this year until mid-October.
The judge of the Central Investigation Court, who specializes in investigating drug cases in Rusafa, Walid Ibrahim, said in a statement to Al-Qada newspaper, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Central Investigation Court seized hundreds of kilograms of narcotic substances," indicating that "these quantities were seized during the period from January 2 to October 17 of this year."
The statement added that "(75) death sentences were issued, including (6) foreigners, and 20 life sentences by the Criminal Court," noting that "with distinguished efforts in cooperation with the competent authorities in the Ministry of Interior, one ton of narcotic substances was seized, amounting to (229) kilograms and (120) grams of crystal, (843) kilograms and (264) grams of Captagon, more than (51) kilograms of hashish, and (100 grams) of psychotropic substances."
Ibrahim pointed out that "six people were arrested and referred to the Central Criminal Court and sentenced to death after carrying out an operation in which a drug dealer and smuggler was lured when it was agreed to transport narcotic substances estimated at 30 kilograms of crystal meth from Sulaymaniyah Governorate to Basra Governorate."
Regarding another operation that took place during the current year, Ibrahim stated that "a security team was assigned the task of arresting a dealer born in 2002 who received approximately (57) kilograms and (230) grams of Captagon pills. He was arrested after an ambush was set up for him the moment he received the quantity from foreign dealers. He was referred to the Central Criminal Court in Rusafa and sentenced to death."
Ibrahim added, "Through another qualitative operation, 151,711 kg of narcotics were seized, after receiving information that there was a factory in Sulaymaniyah for manufacturing Captagon pills and crystal meth in the Kurdistan Region, south of Lake Darbandikhan."
He pointed out that "this place was a tire factory as a main facade inside the factory, where Captagon pills and crystal meth were produced, along with a tank with a capacity of (4) thousand liters of amphetamine, which is the main substance in the manufacture of pills. Information indicates that a shipment of (100) kg of these pills was passed to the Gulf countries, and after obtaining official approvals, the factory was raided."
