US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski confirmed today, Monday, that the United States has taken vital positions to reduce regional escalation with Iraq, while indicating that the transition in the tasks of the international coalition provides for deepening bilateral relations with Iraq.
Romanowski, said during a roundtable for a number of media, including the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “I will leave Iraq soon and it was an honor to serve in Iraq,” indicating that “everyone knows about the electoral promises and ultimately the new presidency will make the right decisions.”
She continued, “The transition phase of the international coalition during the previous years asked us to help Iraq eliminate ISIS and we discussed during the previous days about repositioning after the end of ISIS.”
She indicated that “the international coalition is continuing with Iraq after the defeat of ISIS and we reached an agreement to move and end the presence in 2025,” explaining that “the agreement is in place with commitment to the timing and this allows for deepening bilateral relations between Iraq and the countries of the international coalition,” noting “achieving victories with the Iraqi forces against ISIS.”
Regarding the financial file in Iraq, the US Ambassador indicated that “there is confidence in Iraqi banks and their progress forward in order to carry out economic and financial reforms and improve the banking sector.”
“Relations between America and Iraq are developing "Notable," explaining that "the strategic framework agreement is comprehensive and not just security." Romanowski said.
The US Ambassador stressed "the commitment with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to support Iraq and attract investments from all countries and make Iraq more attractive by encouraging businessmen to invest in it."
She pointed to the increase in US investments inside Iraq and the opening of a number of registered brands after the Prime Minister's visit to America accompanied by a delegation of Iraqi businessmen and investors," indicating that "there is gradual economic development and investment, which is a good indicator for the Iraqi economy."
She noted that the administration of US President Joe Biden has taken vital positions to reduce regional escalation towards Iraq, referring to the increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza with the Biden government's efforts to reduce escalation.
She praised the holding of elections in the Kurdistan Region, while urging the rapid formation of the government to provide services to citizens and pass important laws.
