The Speaker of the Parliament, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, stressed on Friday to the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq, Muhammed Al-Hassan, the importance of strengthening the role of the United Nations in the region.
Al-Mashhadani received Al-Hassan addressing the overall political and economic situations in the region and discussing the developments taking place at the local and regional levels, according to a statement by the media office of the Speaker of the Parliament - received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
The Speaker of the Parliament highlighted “the importance of strengthening the role of the United Nations in the region," asserting "the need to work to achieve stability, reduce conflict, end internal problems, support Gaza in the aggression it is exposed to, unify the Arab and Islamic ranks, and highlight its effective role in the region."
He stressed "expediting the activation of the general amnesty law, which contributes greatly to internal stability and the legislation of the Federal Council, which is considered the second chamber of the legislative authority, as the Parliament represents the citizen, and the Federal Council represents the homeland."
The statement concluded, "The meeting comes at a sensitive time, as the Iraqi government seeks to enhance cooperation with international organizations to achieve development and security goals in the country."
