The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, confirmed today, Tuesday, Iraq's position in support of Palestine and Lebanon in the face of the Zionist aggression.
A statement by the media office of the head of the State of Law Coalition received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "Al-Maliki received in his office the new Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan."
The statement added that "at the beginning of the meeting, the Special Representative conveyed the greetings of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to the head of the State of Law Coalition, while Al-Maliki welcomed the new head of UNAMI and congratulated him on assuming the new position in Iraq, wishing him success and prosperity."
It added that "the meeting discussed the latest developments in the political and economic situation in Iraq and the role of the United Nations in establishing security and stability in the region. The aggression on Gaza and southern Lebanon and the continuation of the genocidal war practiced by the Zionists were also discussed."
Al-Maliki said that "the region is witnessing serious challenges as a result of the criminal Zionist aggression on Lebanon and Palestine," stressing "Iraq's position in support of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinians to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state, and solidarity with the Lebanese people in confronting the aggression."
It pointed to "the depth of the relationship between Iraq and the United Nations", indicating "the desire of all political forces to consolidate security and stability in the country and improve the living and service conditions of the Iraqi citizen".
Regarding the dangerous escalation in the region, the head of the State of Law Coalition called on "the United Nations to play a greater role in stopping the aggression against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples and providing the necessary assistance to the displaced, and working to consolidate security and peace", denouncing "the international silence regarding the Zionist massacres committed against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples".
In turn, Mohammed Al-Hassan expressed "his pleasure in working in Iraq as a representative of the Secretary-General", expressing "his hope to build strong relations that contribute to achieving the goals of the United Nations in providing assistance to Iraq in various fields".
