Barcelona club has concluded a deal to sign a new goalkeeper during the current season to support its ranks, after the severe injury suffered by German Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the Catalan team's goalkeeper.
"The transfer deal for Wojciech Szczesny to Barcelona has been finalized, with the Polish goalkeeper joining the Catalans as a free agent," Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert, wrote on his X account.
"Szczesny will come out of retirement to sign for Barcelona and replace Ter Stegen with a one-year contract."
He concluded, "Szczesny will undergo a medical in Spain in the coming days."
Szczesny, 34, had announced his retirement from football after participating with Poland in the recent Euro 2024 tournament.
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a knee injury during the Villarreal match last Sunday after rising to catch the ball, landing incorrectly on his knee.
Barcelona said in an official statement: "Marc ter Stegen has a complete tear in the patellar tendon in his right knee," and press reports indicate that he may miss the rest of the current season.
