The Ministry of Transportation announced on Wednesday that the Council of Ministers approved a draft law for Iraq to join The Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims of 1976; as amended by the 1996 Protocol.
The Minister of Transportation Abdul Karim Luaibi Bahedh said in a stamen which Ina received a copy of: “This law guaranties reaching an international agreement to reduce liability for maritime claims towards ship owners and rescuers, resulting from maritime accidents and deaths among crews”. He added: “The Ministers Council approved the draft law, and it was submitted to the House of Representatives for approval. This comes as an embodiment of the Government and the Ministry’s attention to the Iraqi maritime sector, transport and overseas trade”.
