Iraqi national team in billiards and snooker continues its training to participate in the Arab Championship hosted by the Saudi capital, Riyadh, from the 10th to the 20th of next December, with the participation of the game's champions and international rankings. The players underwent several differential tests to select the final list. The head of the Billiards and Snooker Federation said in a statement to Al-Sabah, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The preparations of the national team began at the beginning of this month under the supervision of coach Ziad Tariq and international referee Fares Taha Al-Abdeli, where competitive qualifiers took place between eight players to select six of them: Firas Kamel, Ali Jalil, Ali Hussein, Omar Muhammad, Abdullah Falah, Ali Nasser, Moneeb Ali and Imad Adnan."
He added that "the qualifiers witnessed the selection of the three place winners to represent the national team, namely Ali Hussein, Imad Adnan and Abdullah Falah, and will be followed later by differential matches between the five players to select three others for the reserve team," stressing that "this process opens the way for everyone who was not lucky enough to collect points in the previous two stages."
He explained that "the aforementioned gathering was characterised by strong competition and the achieved numbers indicated the possibility of our national team obtaining coloured medals in the Arab Championship," stressing "the importance of selecting distinguished elements in the Arab Championship, especially since Iraq was crowned the title of the last edition hosted by Saudi Arabia last year 2023 with the participation of 14 countries, as our champions won nine coloured medals distributed between three gold medals, the same number of silver, and three bronze."
