The Director of the Sports City in Basra, Lotfi Al-Jazaery, announced today, Sunday, that 85% of the Basra International Stadium rehabilitation work has been completed, while explaining the most prominent completed facilities.
Al-Jazaery told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Rehabilitation work is ongoing at Basra International Stadium in preparation for hosting our national team's matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers," indicating that "the completion rates have exceeded 85 percent."
He added that "the cooling replacement work in the VIP and journalist halls, changing clothes and corridors leading to the stadium floor, and covering its track with temporary carpets have been completed until the end of the Oman match, after which the track will be covered in a modern way," noting that "the stadium floor has been planted with grass that matches the specifications of international stadiums, in addition to preparing the (VAR) technical room."
He added, "The locations of the cameras for the video technology referees in the stadium have been determined, and the training grounds have been prepared," explaining that "the stadium will be ready before the first match of our national team against the Omani team in the final qualifiers for the World Cup."
