The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, stressed today, Thursday, the necessity of continuing international and regional efforts to stop the Zionist massacres against the Palestinian people.

Nouri al-Maliki’s media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The head of the State of Law coalition received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Bagheri, and his accompanying delegation,” noting that “the meeting witnessed a review of the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, and the regional and international situations.” The current developments in the Palestinian territories were also discussed.

Al-Maliki renewed - according to the statement - “his condolences on the passing of the Iranian President, the Foreign Minister and their comrades,” indicating “the ability of the Islamic Republic to overcome such ordeals.”

Al-Maliki pointed to "the importance of the deep relations between Iraq and Iran," stressing "the necessity of developing them to serve the interests of the peoples of the two neighboring countries."
He stressed, "the necessity of continuing international and regional efforts to stop the Zionist massacres committed against the brotherly Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip," warning of "the widening circle of conflict in the region."

He renewed Iraq's firm and principled position regarding the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent national state on their land and historical soil, calling for "continuing action within the international community to save the Palestinian people and stop the criminal Zionist aggression."

The statement added, "Baqeri conveyed the greetings of the Iranian leadership and its thanks to Iraq for its solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the painful incident, and its emphasis on the pivotal role that Iraq plays, in the Arab and Islamic arenas, regarding the problems of the region and the efforts seeking to solve them."
