Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani received today, Saturday, the President and members of the General Federation of Cooperative Agricultural Associations. He listened to various proposals and suggestions concerning farmers and ways to advance the agricultural sector.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani received the president and members of the General Union of Agricultural Cooperative Societies."
Prime Minister Al-Sudani highlighted the importance and effectiveness of the General Federation of Cooperative Agricultural Associations as an intermediary between the government and farmers. He emphasized that supporting and advancing the agricultural sector is a priority and a goal for the government, aiming to reduce dependency on the oil sector and utilize oil revenues to develop other sectors, including agriculture.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani affirmed that the government is committed to disbursing farmers' dues and will offer higher prices for the crops of farmers who use modern irrigation systems compared to those using traditional methods. He noted that 12,000 irrigation systems have been imported for the first time in Iraq. The water management agreement with Türkiye is expected to bring a significant improvement to the agricultural sector in Iraq. He also mentioned supporting farmers with fertilizers produced domestically and lifting restrictions on their importation.
