Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated today, Saturday, the Traffic Signs and License Plate Manufacturing Plant, affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, in central Baghdad.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani opened the traffic sign manufacturing factory, affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, in the center of the capital, Baghdad.”
He added, "Al-Sudani was briefed on the sections of the factory and the stages of manufacturing the traffic plates, which will be of high specifications and allow the vehicle owner to drive outside Iraq."
The Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, the General Traffic Directorate, and the implementing company, highlighting the importance of this project as a solution to address the longstanding challenges of license plate shortages.
The first production line was installed in March and is now operational. The investing company is committed to delivering the remaining production lines soon to produce square plates and motorcycle plates. A team from the General Traffic Directorate's Roads Engineering and Traffic Signs Department received training at the License Plates and Traffic Signs Manufacturing Plant to operate the production lines.
Each production line can produce approximately 2,000 license plates per hour, totaling 16,000 plates per shift, with potential increases based on working hours as needed by the General Traffic Directorate. The plant can produce three types of license plates in different sizes according to instructions and the Directorate’s requirements: short plates, long plates, and motorcycle plates.
