Iraqi court hands down life sentences to 2 for drug trafficking

A life sentence was handed down on Monday by the Wasit Criminal Court to two drug dealers. 
 
"The convicts were seized in possession of 2 bags of hashish and opium with the intention of trading and selling them among users," the Judicial Council stated in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

"The verdict was issued in accordance with articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code and based on the provisions of Article 27 / I of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017," the statement continued.
