Director General of the Commercial and Financial Control Department in the Ministry of Commerce, Riyad Al-Moussawi, expected today, Saturday, the achievement of self-sufficiency in wheat and a surplus in the current marketing season this year, while he confirmed that the surplus will be invested as strategic and national storage.
Al-Moussawi stated in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “it is hoped that Iraq will achieve self-sufficiency in the wheat crop this year, with a production exceeding 6 million barrels, and perhaps it will achieve a surplus and will be invested as strategic and national storage,” pointing out that “self-sufficiency has been achieved in Wheat crop in the country during the past year.
He added, “The laboratory and specialized cadres have been prepared to receive the wheat crop from farmers in all governorates of Iraq,” noting, “Facilitating the process of receiving the crop as quickly as possible, and that work is in full swing 24 hours a day in all the governorates in which marketing has begun until On official holidays.
He pointed out that "the storage capacities are sufficient, and there have been no bottlenecks, and if this happens in the future, new warehouses will be opened."
