The Al-Anbar Power Plant's ongoing work must be completed quickly and in accordance with the necessary specifications, according to an order issued by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Wednesday.
"Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani paid a visit to the Anbar power station project in Al-Furat district, during his visit to the province, which he arrived on Wednesday morning," according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Media Office that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained.
The statement went on, "Sudani met with the executing company at the project headquarters to discuss the details and advancement of the ongoing executive work that has reached advanced stages, and to hear the engineering team's proposals." Additionally, the meeting included a review of the province's electricity service status and the follow-up on the Akkaz gas field project, which will supply fuel to the Al-Anbar power plant once it is completed.
The prime minister emphasized that "delay is not acceptable after the government has provided all the requirements for completion of the station," directing "the speed of completion according to the required specifications."
The Al-Anbar Power Plant, which began construction in 2013 and faced an eight-year hiatus due to ISIS occupation, is a key strategic project. The government's approach to removing obstacles from stalled projects led to the resumption of work in December 2022. Currently, the project's completion stands at 50%.
The facility includes four gas units with a capacity of 273 MW each and two steam units of 275 MW each. The project aims to add 1,640 MW to the national grid, utilizing locally produced natural gas from the Akkaz gas field, reducing energy production costs and ensuring supply stability.
