Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) announced on Tuesday, the arrest of an extortion and threat network in Maysan Governorate consisting of 5 defendants, including a woman.
A statement by INSS, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that, “Based on accurate intelligence information, the National Security Service detachments in Maysan Governorate, and after obtaining judicial approvals, were able to arrests a network practicing blackmail and threats consisting of (5) defendants, including a woman.”
The statement added, "The gang members admitted that they targeted well-known personalities and owners of shops and beauty centers, in order to blackmail and threaten them to obtain sums of money (royalties)."
It pointed out, "The accused were referred to the competent judicial authorities to receive a fair penalty in accordance with the law."
