Al-Sudani: There are misconceptions about the situation in Iraq, whereas in reality, there is serious work being done across all sectors

    Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani affirmed on Friday, that his visit to the capital of the United States, Washington, came to open a new chapter in the relations between Iraq and America.

    Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani stated during a dialogue at the Atlantic Council in Washington, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): We seek more sustainable relationships with US based on mutual interests, mutual respect, and fruitful cooperation as we have a clear vision for implementing our government's policy.

    “Our foreign policy is drawn on the basis of balance, distancing from axis politics, and employing productive diplomacy to build shared interests with neighboring and international communities, he added. “We aim to make Iraq a meeting point, not a battleground”.

    “Iraq has recovered and is moving towards development, reform, and infrastructure reconstruction, in addition to the economic and social revival the country is experiencing,” he noted. “Iraqis have triumphed over the most brutal terrorist organization, a victory that united the Iraqi people”.

    “Over the past week, we held a series of important meetings, met with President Biden, and discussed implementing the Strategic Framework Agreement to build a strong bilateral relationship,” he also added.

    The Prime Minister also stated that “We found a positive atmosphere in the understandings, laying the groundwork for the next phase.

    “We agreed on the importance of continuing dialogue between Iraq and the United States through the Higher Military Commission,” he announced." We met representatives of American companies operating in Iraq and others interested in entering the Iraqi market”.

    “We met with U.S. Treasury officials to discuss the need to review measures that affected several Iraqi banks”,he noted. “We agreed to form a joint committee to address the issues of banks denied dollar transactions”.

    “The U.S. Treasury praised the Iraqi government's measures in reforming the banking system and achieving a high rate of financial transactions compliance with global standards and efforts in combating money laundering,” he stated.

    “We are committed to economic reform and attracting reputable companies to work in Iraq”,

    “The situation in Gaza and the war against its people pose great risks and unpredictable consequences for regional and global security,”Al-Sudani expressed. “We, including the United States, must stop the war immediately to prevent further bloodshed and facilitate the establishment of a Palestinian state as recognized by international laws”.

    “There are misconceptions about the situation in Iraq, whereas in reality, there is serious work being done across all sectors,” the prime minister confirmed.
