Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani received a group of former U.S. Ambassadors to Iraq at his residence in Washington. The meeting took place on the sidelines of his official visit to the United States.

“During the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the former ambassadors during their diplomatic tenures, particularly during crucial phases in Iraq's history, starting from the changes in 2003 and the subsequent political process and nation-building efforts,” stated The Media Office of The Prime Minister in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA.

The Prime Minister highlighted that Iraq is currently experiencing a period of political maturity and stability, coupled with robust urban and economic development.
“He also emphasized that his current visit to the United States comes at a delicate and sensitive time, showcasing the government's commitment regarding partnership, cooperation, and sustainable relationships,” the statement added. “He also emphasized that the ending of the international coalition's mission does not signify the end of relationships but rather a transition to bilateral coordination with all coalition member states, especially given the growing capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces and the diminishing threats from terrorist groups”.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani further explained that his discussions with President Biden and key members of the U.S. administration were characterized by frankness and clarity, within an atmosphere of mutual interest in enhancing bilateral relations. This includes collaboration in economic fields, aligned with the government's plans to address key challenges such as unemployment, launching initiatives benefiting youth, improving service levels, and implementing economic and financial reforms.
