Iraqi courts imprison drug dealers and a convicted person who pretended to be an officer

    In a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Monday, the Supreme Judicial Council declared that "four sentences against convicts, ranging from 15 years to six years in prison against drug dealers, were issued by the Karbala Criminal Court."  

    It was stated by the council that "three convicts were discovered to be in possession of varying amounts of drugs." 

    According to the statement, "A convict found guilty of impersonating a Ministry of Defense officer was sentenced to three years of severe imprisonment by the Karkh Criminal Court.

    The statement clarified in the same context that "A felon who abducted a citizen in Baghdad was given a life sentence by the Dhi Qar Criminal Court.

     "The convict carried out the kidnapping jointly with other defendants, where they received a sum of money as a ransom of 27 million Iraqi dinars from his family in exchange for his release," it stated.
