President Rashid unveils plan for two dams to regulate consumption and benefit from rainfall

    Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rasheed affirmed on Monday, that Iraq is working to construct two dams to regulate consumption and utilize rainwater.

    “President Rashid met with Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq at Salam Palace in Baghdad as they discussed relations between Iraq and Iran, and the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation,” stated the Presidency of The Republic in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA.

    “President Rashid recalled his positive meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the sidelines of the seventh summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Algeria, on adopting strategies that achieve a balance between energy security and the reduction of harmful emissions,” the statement added.

    During the meeting, President Rashid said that Iraq is looking forward to more cooperation to benefit from Iran’s expertise, especially in the field of building dams and water management. He added that work is underway to construct two dams to benefit from rainfall and regulate water consumption.

    He also acknowledged Iran's experience in building dams and sanitation projects.

    “On the issue of Gaza, President Rashid conveyed Iraq's steadfast position in support of Palestine, and the need to end the aggression on the people of Gaza,” the statement continued. 
    “The President also reiterated his previous calls for a definite solution to the Palestinian issue, expressing his appreciation for the firm position of the Islamic Republic in support of Palestinians,” the statement noted.

    Ambassador Al Sadiq reaffirmed his country's position in support of Iraq, its security and stability, and conveyed the Iranian government's keenness to strengthen relations between the two countries in various fields. The Iranian ambassador confirmed that an Iranian delegation will soon visit Iraq to discuss the construction of dams and how to better benefit from surface water and rain. This meeting, he said, will bolster joint efforts to confront environmental challenges and climate change.
