Real Madrid filed a complaint with the Spanish judicial authorities after the team’s striker Vinicius Junior was apparently subjected to “racist and hateful abuse” by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona fans this week.
Footage on social media showed that Atletico fans chanted discriminatory chants against Vinicius before facing Inter Milan on Wednesday in the round of 16 in the Champions League.
Real Madrid took steps to report this incident to the Spanish authorities, and it is alleged that there were similar chants chanted by Barcelona fans before the match against Napoli, which was held on Tuesday.
Real Madrid stated: “The club filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office against hate crimes, discrimination, and racist and hateful abuse directed against our player Vinicius Junior in the vicinity of the Olympic Stadium Montjuic and the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.”
He added, "Real Madrid calls on the Public Prosecutor to ask the security forces to obtain recordings from the signatories in order to identify the perpetrators of these racist insults.".
He continued, "Real Madrid condemns these violent, racist, discriminatory and hateful attacks that our player Vinicius Junior was subjected to, unfortunately, repeatedly.".
The statement stressed, "Our club will continue to work to advance the values of football and sports, and will remain resolute in its fight for intolerance in the face of such disgusting incidents that continue to occur recently."
