The Athletics Federation announced today, Thursday, that the city of Basra will host the West Asian Athletics Championship in its fifth edition, with the participation of 13 countries.
The President of the Athletics Federation, Talib Faisal, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Under the patronage of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, the city of Basra is hosting the West Asian Athletics Championship in its fifth edition, with the participation of 13 countries for the period from May 25 to the first of next June.”.
He added, "The Federation extends its sincere thanks to the Prime Minister, who continues to support the sports movement and seriously contribute to its development in various fields," explaining, "The Iraqi Federation is betting on organizing an exceptional tournament in Basra Al-Fayha.".
He stressed, "The Federation began forming its committees early to ensure the success of the championship competitions, as Iraq is betting on it being a successful and impressive edition for everyone, and we are counting on public support to attend the championship competitions, unlike other editions, because the Iraqi fans love sports in general.".
