The Athletics Federation said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "our youth team won eight colorful medals, including two golds in the Arab Athletics Championships for the youth category, which concluded its competitions in Tunisia with wide Arab participation and at very high levels, as the tournament witnessed the qualification of 33 players to the World Championships. For youth, which will be held in Colombia next August, after they achieved qualifying numbers in a number of races.” .
The statement added, "Our team achieved four qualifying numbers and is one of the teams that witnessed a great development, as Bahrain achieved the largest number of qualifying numbers, within eight numbers, while our team came second with four numbers, then Algeria and Djibouti also four numbers, after which the Qatari team came with three numbers while achieving The teams of Egypt, Kuwait and Tunisia are only two numbers, while Yemen achieved one number, and the rest of the countries failed to achieve any qualification number.”.
For his part, the Executive Director of the Federation, Zaidoun Jawad, confirmed that "what was achieved in the Arab Athletics Championship is a great achievement in light of the financial difficulties that preceded the participation of our team, as it was not possible to enter the team into a training camp, unlike the rest of the teams, most of which camped in Europe.".
