The General Administration of the Tunisian National Guard announced today, Sunday, that its units in the state of Sfax had overthrown a network specialized in smuggling people from a neighboring country.
The Tunisian “Nessma” channel quoted the Tunisian National Guard as saying, “The network specialized in smuggling migrants towards Sfax, sheltering them in stages, and mediating to participate in the illegal migration of migrants.”
The National Guard Administration explained, in a statement, that “13 foreigners were arrested in one of the homes,” noting that “the Public Prosecution authorized the necessary legal measures to be taken regarding them.”
Earlier, the Italian Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantidosi, stated that his country cooperated with Libya and Tunisia to reduce waves of illegal immigration, which prevented the arrival of 121,000 immigrants to Italy in 2023, including people whose bodies were recovered at sea.
