During his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the advancement of the Iraqi armed forces' various technical and field capabilities.
"Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani met with French President Emmanuel Macron, on the sidelines of his participation in the Davos Economic Forum held in Switzerland," according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Media Office that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained. "During the meeting, they discussed the security and political situation in the region, along with bilateral relations between both countries and ways to boost them."
"The two sides reviewed opportunities for cooperation in the economic fields, the field of developing Iraqi military capabilities, the execution of arms contracts with the French company Thales, the expansion of partnerships in the oil field, and the bolstering of various contracts with Total and the rest of the major French companies," the statement read.
The prime minister cited "the consolidation of the Iraqi armed forces' victory over the terrorist group ISIS and their development of technical and field capabilities of all sorts." This, according to the statement, "opens the way for the transition to ending the role of the international coalition to fight ISIS and continuing bilateral security and military cooperation between Iraq and friendly countries that supported it in its war against terrorism."
