Al-Sudani Meets in Davos with the President of the World Bank Group

    Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency INA that “Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, met with the President of World Bank Group Mr. Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the Davos 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.” 
     
    The statement read “The meeting delved into the cooperative relations between Iraq and the World Bank Group across various economic fields. These collaborations aim to bolster the government's efforts and strategic plans, fostering increased investment and development opportunities in Iraq.”
     
    “The meeting also involved a review of the measures and actions taken by the government and the Central Bank of Iraq in terms of financial and banking reform. Additionally, projects financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) were discussed, with a focus on initiatives such as the Baghdad International Airport rehabilitation and development project,” it further said.
     
    The statement made clear that “The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of World Bank reporting accurately the new government's implemented policies in the economic and banking sectors. These policies are geared towards supporting the private sector, diversifying the economy, fostering growth, and achieving financial stability amid the challenges facing the region and the world.”
     
    President of the World Bank Group, Mr. Ajay Banga, commended the government's initiatives in modernizing and developing the banking sector. He expressed strong support for these measures, particularly in the implementation of the electronic payment system,” the statement additionally said.
