PM Al-Sudani meets US National Security Advisor in Davos

PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani met on Tuesday, the US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, on the sidelines of the Davos 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum. 

The meeting highlighted the importance of starting the bilateral Higher Coordinating Committee's work to review the Coalition's presence in Iraq. This agreement was reached during the visit of the Iraqi Minister of Defense to the United States in August of the previous year. Discussions also revolved around formulating a timetable for concluding the Coalition's mission and transitioning to comprehensive bilateral relations with the Coalition's countries, according to a statement by the PM Media Office received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

The meeting addressed the US President's invitation for the Prime Minister to visit the United States and coordinate and set a specific date for the visit through the respective teams of the two leaders.

Al-Sudani emphasized his rejection of "any action that would violate Iraq’s sovereignty, and to carry out a direct response, especially the recent American attack that took place in Baghdad, simultaneously, he reiterated the government's commitment to confronting any attacks targeting the bases hosting Coalition advisors."

The Prime Minister stated that "the ongoing turmoil in the region is due to the continued aggressive war on Gaza," stressing that "stabilizing the region and curbing the expansion of the conflict start with halting the genocidal war against the Palestinian people, which violates international law."

"An imperative to work towards ensuring the Palestinians' right to live in dignity on their land," reiterated Al-Sudani.
