The head of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, confirmed today, Sunday, with the President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, support for the federal government’s position in withdrawal the international coalition forces.
The office of the head of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, Head of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council, received this afternoon, Sunday, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, and they discussed developments in the political and security situation and the ongoing dialogues between Baghdad and Erbil.”
"During the meeting, the two sides touched on the issue of the international coalition forces, as Sheikh Hamoudi considered it a black point that gives a wrong impression about the conditions of Iraq and alienates investments. It is necessary to make 2024 the year to end the complete presence of these forces."
For his part, Barzani praised this, stressing "Erbil's commitment, as part of Iraq, to any decision taken by Baghdad to end the presence of coalition forces."
The statement added, "The two parties expressed their optimism regarding the ongoing dialogues between Baghdad and Erbil regarding the outstanding issues, and their keenness to build a state in which everyone enjoys freedom and a decent life."
