Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has reiterated his commitment to a ceasefire to end the war, even as no progress has been made in peace negotiations.
Dagalo said in a statement after meeting in Pretoria with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa that he had briefed him on "the great efforts being made to end this war".
"I confirmed our unwavering commitment to the cessation of hostilities," Dagalo said, though he did not say whether he would meet Burhan or when. The warring generals agreed last month to hold a face-to-face meeting and start talks on a possible ceasefire, according to the East African Regional Body (IGAD).
Vincent Magwinia, Ramaphosa's spokesman, said during his meeting with Dagalo that he hoped there would be an "imminent face-to-face dialogue" between Dagalo and Burhan and called for an immediate ceasefire.
Dagalo is touringAfrican countries and met Kenyan President William Ruto on Wednesday after visits to Uganda, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
Burhan was due to meet Dagalo on December 28th in Djibouti, but the meeting was postponed.
