The President of the Supreme Judicial Council, judge Faiq Zidan, called on Sunday to review the laws and legislation on human rights, pointing out that human rights are inherent to all human beings and indivisible.
Judge Zidan said, during the second conference of the National Plan for Human Rights, attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA) "Human rights are going through a complicated stage, and on this day in 1948 issued the most prominent document on Human Rights, which included international recognition that fundamental rights and fundamental freedoms are inherent to all human beings and are inalienable, where every human being was born free in dignity and borders, and committed the international community to protect them.
He added "The power of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights lies in the ideas it contains that are capable of changing our countries and peoples for the better, which inspire us and urge us to continue working, and for all citizens to enjoy freedom and equality".
He explained that " Belief in the doctrine of right and justice and its adoption as an approach and behavior, and an independent judiciary, are the firm guarantees of human rights, as stated in the Universal Declaration of human rights, in addition to the principles guaranteed by the Iraqi constitution in 2005 to exercise and protect rights and freedoms.
Zidan called for "Reconsidering the legislations and laws in force that no longer meet the needs of citizens, " noting that "the New Democratic stage also requires that the legal culture, especially the culture of human rights, should be upgraded and adopted in the National Human Rights Plan for the coming years.
He concluded by saying "We are all confident that Iraq, where civilizations are rooted, will be a pioneer of thought, legal culture, and Human Rights".
