Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani visited the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, where he received updates on the ministry's actions throughout the year concerning initiatives addressing poverty, unemployment, and social care.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA):"The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the services rendered by the Ministry of Labor, particularly in its interactions with vulnerable groups."
He highlighted the ministry's sensitive responsibility, requiring diligent follow-up and social care for those entitled to these services.
This duty, he emphasized, is shared across all state departments, underscoring the growing importance of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs as it addresses the government program's five priorities: combating poverty and unemployment, elevating service levels, economic reform, and addressing corruption in government assistance and eligibility within the social protection network.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani affirmed that the government allocated all necessary funds to encompass the number of those eligible for government assistance. This effort resulted in the inclusion of a record 2,151,551 families, marking the highest coverage in the ministry's history. He noted the government's success in rapidly covering 900,000 families during the year, achieving the fastest comprehensive implementation by the Ministry.
Al-sudani instructed the officials in the Ministry of Labor and its departments, to continue providing services to those eligible, particularly the student grant. The government's approach to poverty involves addressing its root causes while offering health and educational services. He indicated that planning surveys will likely reveal a decrease in poverty levels due to measures implemented by the government since its inception.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of the International Day of Disabled Persons, affirming that this group receives the care and attention of the government, which is committed to providing them with comprehensive support. During the visit, Al-sudani met with several citizens, attentively listened to their needs and concerns, and directed the relevant departments to promptly address them.
