Ministry of Oil confirmed on Tuesday that the Total project will provide large production capacities and terminate the issue of flared gas in 5 fields.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for the Oil Exploration Company, Bassem Muhammad Khudair, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the production of oil and gas from reservoirs and fields requires compensating for the depleted reservoir pressure through production operations,” stressing “the necessity of having water injection that compensates for the pressure the drainer."
He added, "Water injection projects in Iraq were delayed due to previous policies, financial budgets, and the difficult circumstances that Iraq went through after 2003," noting that "the ministry tends to establish an injection project based on seawater."
Khudair stressed that "great efforts were made by the Ministry of Oil to achieve this vision, as 4 projects were referred to the French company Total, (Integrated Gas-IG)," pointing out that "the Ministry considers these projects important."
He continued, "The four projects included Artawi Gas Development Project, to increase the production capacities of crude oil and develop the field, as well as the Artawi Gas Project to receive gas from five fields and close the flared gas file, in addition to the seawater injection project to provide about five million barrels of water injected to the various fields as a phase first, in addition to a solar energy project with a capacity of one thousand megawatts to provide electrical energy.”
He pointed out that "the projects were launched through holding meetings with Total, and it is hoped that they will proceed according to the specified timelines," stressing "the importance of the projects as they will provide large production capacities at the oil and gas level, close the file of gas burned in five fields and provide large Iraqi workers and the recovery of Basra Governorate.
