The National Investment Commission-NIC on Saturday, elaborated on the reasons for not declaring the marshes areas as investment opportunities yet, while announcing the intention to establish hotels and tourist complexes near the Ziggurat in Dhi Qar Governorate.
"NIC has put in place all means to achieve investment in Iraq, especially in the south, and in the marshes because of their economic benefit and the stable investment environment, as well as the achievement of investment and development objectives,” NIC spokesman, Muthanna Al-Ghanimi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA). “The marshes have also been a center of attraction to both foreign and domestic tourists”.
"Due to low water levels and the lack of approval, especially from the Ministry of Water Resources, we have not been able to declare marshes areas as real investment opportunities," Al-Ghanimi said.
He stressed that "work is underway to establish hotels near the Ziggurat in Dhi Qar Governorate, to revive tourist places, in addition to working to develop Nasiriyah Airport, and establishing tourist complexes to revive those areas economically and touristically."
