The Ministry of Agriculture announced today, Friday, a European loan to equip irrigation systems, approved during the 2023 budget, while confirming its endeavor to deal with reputable international origins to purchase modern irrigation systems, and pointing to the need for Iraq to equip the systems in large numbers.
The Director General of the Agricultural Investments Department in the Ministry, Iyad Kadhim Al-Bolani, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The technical authorities in the Ministry seek to deal with supportive and solid international bodies to obtain the best facilities,” indicating that “when the move is made to purchase modern systems or High-grade seeds for abundant production are definitely directed towards the best and highest quality sources, as well as their suitability to the Iraqi environment, as the nature of the Iraqi water and soil requires systems that are compatible with them, in addition to the nature of the plants that are used in the Iraqi atmosphere.”.
Al-Bolani added, “There is a loan amount for the Ministry of Agriculture approved during the budget, and it is a European loan through the Austrian company Bauer,” noting that “the loan is not in cash, but rather in kind, which includes equipping irrigation systems.”.
He pointed out that "there are many offers, considering that the biggest challenge facing Iraq and the region is the transition to irrigation systems, and therefore Iraq is new to the transition, so it needs large numbers of systems throughout Iraq.".
