The United Nations Population Fund in Iraq detailed on Tuesday, the axes of its support for conducting the general population census for 2024.
“UNFPA supports the government in conducting the census and provides technical support to it. It is a very important census, especially since it is being conducted for the first time in 35 years," said the director of the UNFPA office in Iraq, Nestor Owomuhangi, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Owomuhangi added, “The census will use of TAP, through which teams will collect data electronically, as the UNFPA has sought the help of experts to manage this expertise technologically,” pointing out that “the UNFPA is also concerned with other supporting parties such as donor countries, United Nations organizations, and governments.”
"The UNFPA is presenting its programs to adopt international standards in implementing the census. There is complete confidence in United Nations organizations, such as the United Nations Fund and others, in conducting the general population census in Iraq. There are reassuring indicators about conducting the census, including the government's desire to do so and allocating a budget for the operation of starting census procedures and providing its requirements," he noted.
He stressed that "there are joint efforts made by the UNFPA and the rest of the United Nations organizations to implement the population census."
