The Minister of Planning, Khalid Batal Al-Najm, confirmed that the next step to implement the general population census will be the implementation of the pilot census in selected areas of the governorates.
Al-Najm said during his meeting with the head and members of the communications sector for the census in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the ministry's preparations continue to conduct the general population and housing census, in Iraq in the last quarter of next year 2023," noting, "The population census procedure represents an urgent necessity, because it will contribute to addressing many problems related to the distribution of financial resources between governorates, according to its precise population sizes.
The minister indicated that "the next step will be to implement the experimental census in selected areas in all governorates, as this step represents great importance in testing our technical and administrative capabilities, and to know the extent of the problems and challenges that will arise, in order to address it before implementing the general census of the population."
