Iraq Ministry of Planning confirmed on Wednesday that the first amendment of Census Law no. 40, for year 2008, aims to provide the right conditions for the implementation of this project.
Ministry of Planning spokesman, Abdul Zhara Al-Hindawi, said in a statement, copy of which received by INA, that: ‘the first amendment of the Census Law was made for the purpose of creating the suitable conditions for the implementation of “Project of General Housing and Population census” next year.’
The spokesman added that ‘the council of Ministers has decided to exclude the ministry of planning from commitment to the ‘Government Contracts Instructions no.2’ for the year 2014 and all the regulations connected to it, explaining that the decision was taken to enable the Central Bureau of Statistics of purchasing whatever requirements needed for the census, the aim being to overcome all kind of problems and to guarantee the success of the project within the timetables laid for the process.
The spokesman went on stressing that ‘the ministry has already started taking practical steps within the framework of its preparations to implement the census in October, 2020.’ He explained also that the preparations will include the formation of a supreme census committee presided by the Minister of planning, and an operation room and executive management, in addition to 10 more specialized working sectors.
He pointed out also the high level of coordination with the Kurdistan region in implementing the census, which will be electronic through the use of i-pads, emphasizing that the census will be used for development purposes in various fields.
